How Often Do Windows Need to Be Replaced?
ExpiredWindows should be replaced around the 15 or 20-year mark, as a general rule of thumb. Whether you bought a new or old home, or have been living in your residence for some time, the time will come when you begin to question the age of the windows. Most windows can last up to 25 years, but there are a number of factors that can change. Humidity, sunlight, natural disasters/stormy weather, usage, and a number of environmental factors naturally age windows and the seals around them. Though you can caulk, repair, and maintain your older windows, there are a few surefire signs that your windows warrant replacement.
Signs It Is Time to Replace Your Windows
Getting new windows to substitute your old ones is a great investment. It’ll give your home a whole new feel and will upgrade the value of your home. If you see any of these signs, it may be time to call More Than Glass.
1. Cracked Window Panes/Frame
A big sign of aged windows or window damage is cracking or missing pieces in the windowpane or window frames. Not only is it unattractive but these small cracks cause large inefficiencies in your heating and air conditioning, and allow a space for insects and small vermin to come in. Yes, new weatherstripping and sealing some cracks can help for some time. But eventually, these windows will need replacing.
2. Moisture Damage or Fogged Glass
If you have double or triple-paned windows, which were common in the ’80s and 90s, condensation can become trapped between the panes, causing a permanent “fogging” effect. If your windows are foggy it reduces visibility and may start to leak.
3. Windows Get Stuck/ Hard to Open
If your windows are difficult to open or close or often get stuck, or the locks no longer work, you should definitely think about new windows. Older-looking windows with broken locks are appealing to bandits who scope out neighborhoods for homes with easy access. New windows are made with better, more shatterproof glass, and have working locks so that your family can feel safe.
4. Hearing Too Many Outside Noises
Old and weak windows will let noises through - so if you’re a sensitive sleeper or just prefer a quieter home, new windows can help. If you can hear the wind whistling at night, or insects or birds louder than they should be, consider more modern glass.
5. Living Near High Humidity / Storm Season or Other Natural Disaster
Water and storms can do a number on your windows, yet if you live in a place prone to hurricanes, monsoons, floods, or other natural disasters, it is vital to have windows that can withstand flying debris.
6. Air Conditioning and Heating Bills are Too High
You can look up what the average energy bills are for your area, and compare them to how much you’re paying. If you notice your bills slowly getting higher every year, or suddenly skyrocketing, there are likely cracks in your old windows that are causing inefficiencies. Remodeling with new windows can help offset your energy costs.

After an extensive search to have installed mirrors in our gym in the Northern Neck area for a glass company we found More Than Glass. From the time I introduced myself to the final installation, their team of experts were professional, responsive, timely, precise and just overall impressive. I was more than pleased
I was more than pleased when I contacted your company to help with a shattered sliding glass door in the sun room. I contacted your team via internet form in the morning. I received a call that afternoon and your people came out to give me a quote the next day. The following day, he came to do the repair. Thanks for your teams reliability, efficiency, and expertise!

I Refer More Than Glass
I bought a large piece of glass (4'x9') to cover our kitchen table. They offered options for the edge and corners and had my glass ready in a couple of days. I picked it up and they helped me load it in my vehicle. Whenever someone asks where we got the glass, I refer them to More Than Glass. Very happy with the product and service.
